YouTube banner size guide

Everything you need to know about YouTube channel banner dimensions

Learn the correct YouTube banner size, the safe zone for all devices, file requirements, and design best practices for an effective channel banner.

What is the correct YouTube banner size?

YouTube recommends channel banners be 2560 × 1440 pixels. This single image is used across desktop computers, mobile phones, tablets, and TV screens — but different crop regions are shown on each device type.

What is the YouTube banner safe zone?

The safe zone is the central 1546 × 423 pixel region of the banner. Content in this area is visible on all device types. Keep your channel name, logo, and key information within the safe zone to ensure they appear on every screen.

How is the banner displayed on different devices?

On TV screens, the full 2560×1440 image is shown. On desktop, a central 2560×423 strip is visible. On tablets, a 1855×423 strip. On mobile, only the 1546×423 safe zone is shown. Design your banner with the safe zone as the primary focus.

How does the letterbox resizing work?

The tool calculates whether your image needs to be fitted horizontally or vertically into 2560×1440. It scales proportionally to fill the larger dimension, then centres the image and fills any remaining space with a white background.

What file formats are supported?

The tool accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP images up to 10MB. Output is always JPEG at 90% quality. YouTube requires banners to be under 6MB — output files from this tool are typically well under that limit.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. All resizing is done locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your image file never leaves your device and is never transmitted to any server.

Design tips for YouTube channel banners

Place your channel name, logo, and upload schedule in the safe zone (centre 1546×423 px). Use bold, readable fonts. Keep the background consistent with your channel's colour palette. Test on both mobile and desktop after uploading — the crops are very different.

Is this tool free?

Yes — completely free with no usage limits, no sign-up and no watermark on the output. Process as many banner images as you need.
