How accurate is the subscriber count?
The subscriber count shown is sourced directly from the YouTube Data API v3 and reflects the figure YouTube makes publicly available. YouTube rounds subscriber counts for very large channels (e.g. displaying '10.2M' instead of the exact number), but the API returns the precise integer value which this tool displays in full.
Why does the count not update in real time?
YouTube's public API caches subscriber counts and does not expose a true millisecond-level stream. Most third-party live counters — including this one — poll the API periodically and display the latest returned value. The auto-refresh interval here is 30 seconds, which is the practical limit for free API access.
What does 'hidden by channel' mean?
Channel owners can choose to hide their subscriber count in YouTube Studio settings. When a channel has enabled this option, the YouTube API returns hiddenSubscriberCount: true and does not expose the actual number. No tool can retrieve a hidden subscriber count — it is a deliberate privacy choice by the creator.
Does subscriber count affect YouTube algorithm?
Subscriber count is a social signal, not a direct ranking factor. The YouTube algorithm primarily uses watch time, click-through rate, session time and viewer satisfaction signals. A channel with 500 subscribers but high CTR and watch time can outperform a channel with 500,000 subscribers on the same topic.
