What statistics does the calculator show?
The calculator displays: total playlist duration, total video count, number of live streams, number of regular videos, average video length, and estimated watch time at 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75× and 2× playback speed.
How does the calculator fetch durations?
It uses the YouTube Data API v3. First it fetches all video IDs in the playlist using the playlistItems endpoint, then it retrieves each video's contentDetails.duration in batches of 50. All API calls are made directly from your browser.
Why are live streams excluded from duration?
Live streams that are currently in progress have no defined duration — their length is indeterminate until they end. The calculator identifies these videos by their liveBroadcastContent field and lists them separately so they don't skew the total.
How many videos can it calculate?
The calculator supports up to 500 videos using paginated API requests (up to 5 pages × 100 items per page). Most YouTube courses, tutorial series and curated playlists fall well within this limit.
How does playback speed save time?
Watching at 1.5× speed reduces a 10-hour playlist to roughly 6 hours and 40 minutes. The calculator shows your exact time savings at each speed tier so you can decide the best rate for comfortable comprehension.
Why use a playlist length calculator?
Before committing to an online course, lecture series or binge-watch session, knowing the total duration helps you plan your schedule realistically. It's also useful for course creators auditing their own content length.
Can I calculate a private playlist?
No. The YouTube Data API only returns data for public playlists without authentication. Private or unlisted playlists require OAuth-authenticated API access, which this tool does not use.
Is this tool free?
Yes — completely free, no account, no limits. The calculator is powered by the YouTube Data API v3.
